"Your Blog is Boring"

My favorite uncle from the midwest offered me those profound words in the title of his last e-mail regarding the current state of my blog and I couldn't agree more. Being as it has been nearly two months since my last post I figure it is once again time for an update on things here in Bulgaria.

A few weeks ago I was able to take a bit of time off and fly to Italy to meet up with my parents for a week and a half of gallivanting around Europe's finest country. Arriving two days before my folks allowed me to head up to Perugia to spend some time walking around my favorite Italian city, hang out with Baldo and Matia, and most importantly, eat a grip of La Botte pizza. There are few things better in life than sitting on Le Scale in the center of Perugia, eating a pizza romana, drinking a cold Peroni, and watching life go by. From Perugia I headed to Rome to meet up with my parents where we spent a few days seeing the sights of the city and enjoying the laid-back Roman lifestyle. Outside of the usual attractions, one of the highlights of Rome was seeing an elderly Spanish gentleman pull a knife on a pickpocket on a crowded city bus at 11:30 pm. To conclude the trip we headed to the great but far too crowded town of Vernazza. Rick Steves, who previously was on my hate list (also knows as the list of people I am extremely jealous of) alongside the likes of Shaun White made the jump to my actual hate list by popularizing and hence ruining the once quite town we have come to love. Despite the roaming masses of baby-boomers butchering the Italian language we were able to find a quaint hotel in the town of Monterosso and had a great few days of hiking and swimming.

All in all we had a fantastic time and it was great to be able to spend some quality time with my parents again.

I was beginning to wonder if you had forgotten how to write in English... I also hate/am very envious of Rick Steves. If a monoglot effeminate old man such as him can make millions by traveling the world, why can't we?

When I saw my quote at the top of your latest post...my heart felt ashamed. Then, upon further review of my last entry and your admission that it had been months since you last wrote something, I patted myself on the back metaphorically speaking. I think this Rick Steves it the good guy on the Discovery Channel...I think. I am jealous too, but my life is good enough. I am happy to hear that you had a good time with your folks. I am sure it was too short. We keep you in our prayers always. Hugo's book is amazing! First time for you. You won't be disappointed. Be sure you read "Brother Karamzoff" too, if you haven't. Between the two you will find some of the deepest insights into the human condition and soul you will find in all of western literature. Be safe. Keep up with your blog as I LOVE hearing about your adventures. Uncle Bruce
